Olivia Wang is an award-winning Chinese–Australian screen actress, creator, and producer working across auteur cinema, character-driven film, and cross-cultural screen storytelling.

 

Her performances are grounded in a restrained, body-led screen language shaped by emotional compression — where emotion is held internally through breath, stillness, gaze, rhythm, and subtle physical shifts rather than external display.

 

Wang has received 7 international Best Actress awards, with her work selected by more than 30 international film festivals across North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia. Her screen work explores migration, identity, female subjectivity, psychological interiority, and cross-cultural experience, with a particular interest in complex and emotionally restrained female characters.

 

Alongside acting, Wang develops an evolving performance practice centred on Embodied Screen Acting, exploring how breath, sensory awareness, physical presence, and the body itself can shape character and screen presence. Her practice has further developed into an ongoing exploration of Embodied Migration Acting, informed by her experience of moving between cultures and cinematic contexts.

 

She is also the founder of Cross Encounters, a Melbourne-based Chinese–Australian arts and cultural initiative focused on international artistic exchange, interdisciplinary creation, and embodied performance research.

 

As an actress, Wang works within director-led projects, bringing a distinctive physical and emotional vocabulary while remaining responsive to the director’s vision, the character, and the film’s language. She is particularly interested in auteur, festival-facing, character-driven, and cross-cultural cinema.
